Camping in Sanibel

My husband has always spoken of Sanibel Island, a place he loves and used to camp before we met. After several weeks of very cold temperatures, we decided to hop in the car and head south to check it out. Our son just turned 2 so we figured this would be a great time to introduce him to camping! Our first stop on the way down was Savannah, a place I would love to spend some more time. I loved those huge oak trees covered with spanish moss and all of the historic brick structures. We knew we hit Florida when we saw an orange grove on the side of the road! The oranges really are about 10 times juicier than the ones we can buy in the store!

We settled in quickly at our campground in Sanibel and traveled around by bicycle getting lots of exercise in the process! We made daily visits to the beach, known for it seashells, and cooked everyday at our campsite. The farmers market on the island was amazing and filled with so many varieties of fresh fruit. There were tropical birds everywhere and beautiful trees and flowers. Our last stops were Fort Myers for a cheap but tasty fish sandwich at the City Fish Market and Atlanta to visit the original Krispy Kreme factory. It was hard to leave but we are hoping to make this an annual family vacation!
