Coyote Hunting With The In-Laws | Abingdon Virginia Photography

Marrying my husband Ron was the best decision I ever made. Along with having him in my life, I also gained some wonderful in-laws and have enjoyed some interesting experiences along the way. The men in his family are hunters from deep in the Appalachian Mountains of Southwestern Virginia. My brother-in-law was a former military sniper and now puts away enough deer meat to feed his family of 5 for the entire year. Lately the locals have been attempting to hunt coyote to reduce the killing of livestock. I had never been along for a hunt and out of curiosity I asked to tag along. My father-in-law taught me all about the various whistles used to mimic the sound of an injured animal to attract the coyotes. He also had a stuffed animal rabbit which vibrated around and put on quite the show. While we waited, I hid in the bushes in a borrowed camouflauge coat behind my sniper brother-in-law, for safety reasons of course! We did not see a coyote (secretly I was happy about this!) nor any other living creature that day high up in the mountain, but I truely enjoyed documenting the experience!

Emily & Justin Engagement | Lindside West Virginia Engagement Portraits

What is true love? When your fiance pushes you aside so you don’t step in a cow pie. Justin did just that for Emily while we explored his family’s beautiful property in Lindside, West Virginia. We had over 150 acres to work with so the session also involved a  workout with hiking up and down each mountain! It was a great time and even the cows had to check out what was going on. Emily and Justin met while both attending VCU and now they have made the move to Grundy, Virginia to pursue pharmacy and law school. While in Grundy, Justin popped the big question and a wedding is planned for this coming July in Richmond. Congratulations!

The Kirshenbaum Family | Richmond Virginia Family Photography

Tina and Eric had a beautiful wedding at The Homestead and since then, their family has grown significantly with the addition of their baby boy Brooks and dog Cooper. Cooper made sure to clean up Brooks before his big modeling debut! We started out by visiting Brooks’ room which was filled with all things sports. It won’t be long before he will be throwing a baseball around with his Dad. Next, we were lucky enough to have a warm day in January so we spent some time outdoors with Brooks’ favorite toys. I just loved Brooks’ many expressions and the way he pushed his lips together! You can’t get any cuter than this!

Bethany’s Baby Shower | Richmond Virginia Baby Shower Photography

It is hard to believe, but I had never been to a baby shower before and Bethany’s was my first! Bethany is a good friend of mine who is happily pregnant and so excited for her due date in March. She will have a little boy and in celebration, this shower was thrown by her family and friends. My contribution was documenting the event which I really enjoyed and also making the favors. My husband Ron and I made carrot cake jam and I cut out some sheep tags, thanks to an idea I saw on Etsy! Along with a peek at lots of cool baby gifts, we played some games including guessing the circumference of Bethany’s belly, a word scramble, and a nursery rhyme challenge. All in all, a great time with great good and now Bethany’s nursery is ready to go!

Nakita & LJ Engagement | Horticulture Gardens Blacksburg Virginia Engagement Photography

Nakita and LJ met in the most random and fun way, while at a circus audition in Pennsylvania. Nakita was auditioning and LJ was already working with this circus for the trapeze act. After a quick introduction, these two were inseparable and have now been together for 12 years! LJ popped the question at an arboretum in Maryland and a wedding is now planned for August 10th of this year. For engagement portraits, we visited the Hahn Horticulture Gardens in Blacksburg, Virginia. For a chilly January day, we did spot some blooming yellow flowers. This was perfect because Nakita and LJ’s wedding day colors will be yellow and gray! I loved how these two were so comfortable with each other and how they made each other laugh. It seemed like they didn’t even realize a camera was there!
