Rafael & Lily’s Surprise Sailboat Proposal at Inn at Perry Cabin

Some proposals take months of planning, and Rafael made sure every detail was just right.

To keep the surprise, I traded my camera bag for an Inn at Perry Cabin polo shirt and hat, blending in as part of the sailing crew for the afternoon. As Rafael and Lily relaxed aboard their private sail, she had no idea their photographer was quietly along for the ride.

The couple met four years ago in Washington, D.C., and after an incredible first date, they knew they couldn’t wait to see each other again, scheduling a second date the very next day. Since then, they’ve built a wonderful life together.

Lily grew up on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, spending summers sailing and visiting St. Michaels, making it a place filled with happy memories. After a busy season at work, Rafael suggested they escape for a few days to unwind at the beautiful Inn at Perry Cabin. What Lily didn’t know was that he had been planning the perfect proposal all along.

As the sailboat glided across the water, Rafael led Lily to the bow. When he dropped to one knee, I stepped out from my “crew” role, camera in hand, to capture the moment she realized what was happening. Her surprise quickly turned into pure joy as she said “yes!”

After celebrating aboard the sailboat, we spent a few more minutes creating engagement portraits surrounded by the water that has meant so much to Lily throughout her life!
