An engagement session is a great way to get comfortable in front of the camera and for me to learn more about the two of you! The images are also perfect for save the dates, custom guest books, or even reception table decor. Here are a few tips.

Location: I will ask you some questions about where you met, where your first date was, where you two like to spend your days off together, and where the big proposal happened. It is always really sweet to incorporate a location significant to the two of you as a couple. If you simply enjoy exploring new places together, we can pick a place you have been wanting to check out! Hillary and Adam’s engagement session below took place in the Grandin area of Roanoke where they first met, a spot known for their cute streets and fun murals. We also incorporated an awesome tandem bike since these two are avid bicyclists!

Props: If there is an item that really speaks to you two as a couple, please bring it along. For example, during Nadira and Kayvon’s engagement session in Annapolis, I learned that their first date was at a bakery over muffins. I had to track down a muffin to incorporate it into their images and we were in luck to find the perfect blueberry muffin! If you two absolutely love craft beer, bring along a bottle of your favorite beer and two glasses. If you have a dog that is practically a member of your family, bring him or her along!

What to Wear: I recommend to choose patterns and colors that coordinate or look well together rather than to match each other. Wear something that you feel comfortable in yet is also flattering. You may change halfway through the session and I recommend a dressy and a more casual outfit. Think of it as one of those first dates where you wanted to wear the perfect outfit, show off your personality, and look great for each other!

Don’t be afraid of color and a good way to include it is with accessories such as jewelry, scarves, or shoes. You may also consider having professional hair and makeup done or a manicure so you feel your best! Cleaning your ring before the session will make it extra beautiful and shiny for those detail shots. Have fun with it and here are a few examples of outfits that coordinate well together.

Christmas in St. Michaels began this year with the annual Holiday Gala held at Harbourtowne Resort. It was the perfect start to the festive weekend and everything turned out so amazing! The Christmas in St. Michaels organization and Harbortowne Resort pulled together everything for this event including the holiday decorations, centerpieces, favor bags, placecards, appetizers, and a three course meal that ended with a huge assortment of beautiful desserts. The evening ended with lots of dancing to the popular XPD band!

After things quiet down from the wedding is a great time to start thinking about your wedding album! I cannot say enough good things about having a wedding album as a keepsake. They are beautiful, built to last, and are reminders of how wonderful each and every part of your wedding day was. My favorite and most popular album is the leatherbound and I love its nice thick pages and the custom leather options with cutouts. Below are a few samples.

My next favorite albums are the hardcover books which work as a less expensive option for your wedding day album. These are also perfect for gifts to your parents after the big day. In addition, the hardcover books can also be used as guest books showing off your engagement images. For guest books, I recommend a linen paper which can be easily signed by your guests with any type of pen. It’s the perfect way to use those engagement images and have fun notes from your family and friends to read after the wedding day!

Valerie and Andrew brought their son, Joshua out to Cawley Tree Farm in Denton, Maryland so he could pick out his first live Christmas tree. Joshua couldn’t have been any cuter with all of his happy expressions and he knew how to ham it up for the camera! He did a little decorating, ran through the trees, played with Mom and Dad, and even helped with the cart and saw! I think he had a good time!
