“If you want epic lighting photos that candidly tell the story of your wedding day, book Laura now.

The search for a photographer is overwhelming. We didn’t know the lingo so didn’t know how to describe the types of photos we wanted. We obviously needed the typical posed family groupings, but we also wanted lots of candids that captured all the emotions of the day and where you could hear the laughter or see the movement of the dancing. We didn’t want crazy Instagram-esque filters or extreme styles like the airy bright and washed out clouds look or dark and moody look. We really wanted something in between with rich colors and epic sunset sky shots. 

Finally, we came across Laura’s portfolio, and we immediately loved her photography style, which she described as “documentary.” Every photo we scrolled through was a winner and felt like she read our minds. We set up a meeting with Laura and she was just so down to earth yet completely in control. Within a few minutes, she had our entire wedding day’s schedule planned out for us to the minute and in our inbox. We were absolutely floored by her impeccable organization and immediately knew we had to book her.

Laura’s rate included an engagement shoot, which she strongly recommended. We’ve been engaged for a few years so didn’t plan on doing one, but are so glad we did. Not only were the photos absolutely stunning, but it was a great practice run before the big day without the stress. It also gave Laura a chance to get to know us and our story, which she actually remembered and used on our wedding day to make us smile and laugh. Laura provides a list of suggested locations, from which we chose Waterfront Park in St Michaels. She knew every inch of that place and within an hour we had a variety of photos on the water, in the field, on the street, and some insane lighting on the covered bridge.

On the wedding day, Laura’s second shooter was Rachel, every bit as talented. Together they took care of every single family grouping in record time and truly documented the entire day from start to finish. Our friends and family looking at pictures honestly don’t remember seeing them take half the shots. They somehow even captured a family moment that barely anyone else saw but was incredibly important to us. 

Within 24 hours, Laura had a “preview” post on her blog with a bunch of winners. Honestly those would’ve been perfect from any other photographer, but then we got the full package a few weeks later and were blown away. She delivers them on a website where you can share or order prints, as well as a custom USB drive for safe keeping.

We have a digital frame cycling through our favorites, and every single day we can’t help but smile at them. “Man, where does the time go? Laura was our photographer both for our engagement session in Spring 2019 and our wedding December 14, 2019. Throughout our experience working with her was nothing but pure joy. She is organized, prompt, skilled, and a great communicator, which is exactly what you need on one of the most important days of your life! I was referred to her by another photographer, but I am so thankful I went with her.
For our engagement shoot, we chose a local brewery that at the time had never had anyone ask to take professional photos there. Laura arrived early to scope out the location, work with the proprietor, and make sure she had the best vision for our session. She made us both comfortable and handled the crowds well. The photos were so unique and I loved how they turned out. She captured our aesthetic, while still thinking outside of the box of typical engagement photos. We got the photos back almost immediately, which was fantastic for save the dates and wedding planning purposes.
For our wedding she was once again wonderful. We spoke a few times to make sure that the timing and photo schedule was set. I felt comfortable knowing we had a plan and that her and her assistant would be there pushing us along and getting everything that we wanted. She scoped out the location and was prepared for weather changes. We got lucky and the rain subsided in the afternoon, leading to beautiful outside photos, even with the cold! Both her and her assistant captured so many precious moments, from the getting ready, first look, family shots, ceremony, and fantastic shots during the Hora! She was also flexible to a few changes on the spot, which was important. She timely turned the photos around and made sure they were available both by flash drive and in an online portal.
A few important things that stuck out to me about how Laura conducts her business that I believe are imperative for people to know and choose her. First, she is kind and works well with others, such as my makeup artist, other vendors, and more and makes sure to credit them in her posts of the event. Second, I really appreciate her social media etiquette. She makes sure to tag her clients if they wish on her Instagram and Facebook, which to me shows that she cares about her clients and what she shoots. Finally, I love the blog posts of her sessions. These were incredibly helpful to me to get an idea of how she shoots wedding and other big life events, and the blog from our wedding is something I cherish dearly and go back to often.
In no way does my delay on this review reflect Laura Focus Photography at all! These past few years have been insane, but I want to make sure it is known how fantastic she is! Hoping to work with her again in the future, maybe for a family session in a few years

Laura got us our photos so quickly, it was mind blowing! We received a single photo preview just a couple days after the wedding, our blog post was done less than a week after the wedding, and we received all our of photos in less than 2 weeks after the wedding. It was really great and satisfying to have a continuous flow of photos so soon after the event!

I only have good things to say about Laura, so save your self some time researching wedding photographers and hire Laura today! A friend that attended our wedding is getting married next year and has already booked Laura for her wedding!”

“When I started wedding planning, I had only a few things in mind that I REALLY cared about, and as a person on a budget, I found myself quick to accept the whole “pick 2-3 things that really matter and let the rest be good enough” strategy of both planning & spending. I knew immediately that great photos would mean everything to me, and I could not have asked for more from our experience of working with you. I am not super comfortable in front of a camera (and I am not as photogenic as Tom). I recognize this is because I am animated and talkative–perfectly reasonable things in real life but often pretty terrible in photographs!–but you managed to catch some truly lovely moments of us…and I absolutely LOVE the pictures of the details, the space, and our loved ones. As you know, I had my heart pretty set on being outside (and we used our own pictures of KMI’s beautiful riverfront and extensive grounds for our invitations and webpage!), but the universe had other plans…and there are so many ways the rain worked to our advantage in terms of getting our people to interact and our enjoying a very intimate and intensely supportive vibe during our ceremony. Turns out, the universe knew better than I did!

I am so grateful, though, that you were willing and able to run around outside with us–we are outside people, and those photos are among my (many!) favorites. I know my hoped-for dock pictures didn’t have a chance (since the thing was underwater most of the weekend!), but I love all the green and the river in the background and the puddles and the umbrellas. You made it work so well!

In fact, Laura, you made everything work so well. You were in control without being short-tempered, you were patient and generous and imaginative, you made us comfortable (as we were endeavoring to navigate many diverse emotions), and you never interfered with the experience of the wedding (even as you were doing an excellent job of capturing it)! I admit I was worried I would be very aware of you–that has been my experience with previous wedding photography–but you and Jess were where you needed to be without ever intruding–quite a feat! And so appreciated!

And the photos have brought me such joy. You captured a couple dear folks I came home without pictures of (thank you, thank you, thank you!) and you created a beautiful expression of the narrative of our joyful experience (no small thing to two English teachers who both love stories and have been pretty awed that either of us ended up married!). Your talents are in the photography itself but also in your sensitivity to the pieces and people we care about…and the day we hope never to forget.

My husband and I contracted with Laura for our wedding photography. She was absolutely brilliant! She was on time, a pleasure to be around and relaxing on such a hectic day. She has a unique perspective that made it worth all of our money and much much more. The best part is that we did not have to wait much past returning from our honeymoon to see our wedding photos. All of our guests still comment on our wedding photographs and how great Laura was – she was a fun person to be around, but went unnoticed during the ceremony. I would say that Laura is an exceptional photographer and deserves everyone’s time and money. As an aside, we contracted her for an area outside her typical service area and she was fair with pricing on travel fees.
